Matthew Purves is Ofsted’s Deputy Director for Schools. He has led the development of major inspection frameworks and was responsible for inspector training and the effective administration of Ofsted’s quality assurance and complaints work. He also led Ofsted’s work to introduce short inspections and the common inspection framework. This ambitious package of reforms was implemented in September 2015. He oversaw the work to bring all early years inspectors back in-house within Ofsted. This change took place in April 2017.
Before joining Ofsted, Matthew worked at the Department for Education’s internal consultancy unit for education standards.
