School can be a stressful place. I used to hear students say the word ‘stress’ a lot in secondary schools. Now I hear it daily in primary schools. Nine out of ten children say they feel stressed ‘very often’ or ‘often’ (Parent Coaching Academy survey 1,000 children 9-11 years, 2019).
A couple of years ago I was coaching a child who was really anxious about maths, especially as SATS approached. He said he felt paralysed in the class, with the shadow of fear on his shoulder. I coached him to help him manage his challenging feelings, to re-frame them, to put himself in the driving seat – and turn his stress into fuel. That’s just what he did.
And he’s not the only child to inspire me. I’ve seen children so afraid of failing that they are unwilling to even try bring about powerful changes in themselves just by thinking differently, and adopting very simple strategies. These amazing transformations convinced be that this book had to be written.
Super Coach Arty vs The Shadow is packed with practical tips for that have been developed in my role as a Stress-management Coach to children in schools across the UK. At some point, every child will struggle – in the classroom, with playground challenges or friendship issues. Arty helps children develop their ‘Inner Coach’, finding creative ways and simple easy to remember strategies to rise to challenges and grow stronger through them.
“Super Coach Arty takes children on a creative journey, showing them how to use their imaginations to manage challenging emotions. Very empowering. Every child and parent should read this book.”
